At Pearson Floral Designs, sustainability isn't a trend—it's an essential part of our design philosophy. I grew up on a farm in Iowa, where I learned early on to care for the land, reuse what we had, and respect the cycles of nature. Today, that same ethic informs how I design, source, and deliver florals. Sustainability is not just a professional commitment—it’s deeply personal.

We believe beautiful florals shouldn’t come at the cost of the planet, and we’re committed to using practices and materials that are both environmentally responsible and artistically inspiring.

  • 🌱 Biodegradable Floral Foam

We exclusively use OASIS® TerraBrick™ and MaxLife biodegradable floral foams—the most advanced and environmentally responsible products of their kind. These foams:

    • Are certified biodegradable, breaking down up to 91% in one year in biologically active landfill conditions.
    • Are engineered for compostable performance without compromising structure or flower life.
    • Help reduce the volume of single-use plastics in event design.

We encourage you to learn more directly from OASIS Floral Products and their sustainable product development practices.

  • 🌸 Responsible Flower Care

All our florals are conditioned, hydrated, fed, and finished using FloraLife® sustainable products, which:

    • Meet or exceed environmental safety standards
    • Are backed by a company committed to water conservation and responsible chemistry
    • Help prolong the life of your flowers while minimizing waste

  • 🌼 Fresh Floral Subscriptions

Our subscription model is built with sustainability in mind. We actively encourage clients to reuse their own floral containers to reduce waste and avoid unnecessary packaging. This practice not only minimizes environmental impact, but it also allows us to offer more flowers per delivery and create designs tailored to your preferred vessels.

See our Floral Subscriptions page to learn more about how we blend beauty and sustainability with every arrangement.

  • 🤍 Flower Donation After Events

Whenever possible, we encourage clients to donate floral arrangements from weddings and celebrations to local hospitals, nursing homes, and houses of worship. This thoughtful practice gives your flowers a second life, bringing joy to others while reducing waste.

Donated florals may also be eligible for charitable tax deductions—ask us how we can help coordinate this meaningful gesture.

  • 💐 Wedding Installations: Note on Reusable Water Tubes

Reusable floral water tubes are often promoted as a sustainable alternative to foam in floral installations like arches. However, if not reused, these plastic tubes create more waste than biodegradable foam.

We do not recommend using water tubes unless:

    • You (or your florist) have a plan in place to collect and reuse them after the event.
    • The installation allows for easy disassembly and responsible cleanup.

When possible, we design installations with foam-free mechanics or biodegradable options that honor both the event and the environment.

  • 🌎 Our Ongoing Commitment

We continue to educate ourselves and evaluate the environmental impact of our materials and methods. While the floral industry faces real challenges in achieving zero waste, our mission is to design with integrity, educate with honesty, and create beauty that respects nature.

If you have questions about our practices or how to make your event more sustainable, we welcome the conversation. Let's design something unforgettable—and more earth-friendly—together.
